Doing it right with jack and pack | Australian Reblocking

  The jack and pack technique involves lifting the floor and inserting material between the framing and piles. The method is often employed to resolve creaky floors, repair previously fixed cracks, or to correct slopes in the floor. The jack and pack is not the only option to resolve the problem of a sagging floor. Some homeowners may not need to have a building permit to perform minor repairs on their foundations. However, some significant repairs should be done with a permit in order to comply with local building codes. The jack and pack technique is divided into five stages. In the first stage, a series of bottle jacks is placed near the stumps. Then, high density plastic packers are inserted into the gap created by the jacks. In the second stage, a hydraulic jack is put into position. The piston of the jack then pushes the first thrust member along the column in a single stroke.
